Turkish artist carves one-tonne rosary; willing to send to Ankara

Artisan hailing from Turkey who has carved a one-tonne rosary made of a string of beads is set to send his artifact to Ankara. 

“I want to give it to the Presidential Complex as a gift,” said Nasır Fidan, an artisan who has been making prayer beads for 18 years.

The rosary includes 36 pieces of the stone with each weighing more than 27 kilograms and some 400,000 Turkish Liras ($50,400) were spent for the prayer beads made of amber. Fidan has submitted his artifact to the Guinness Book of Records for review, claiming the beads to be the “largest of their kind."

"We had a hard time carving this piece. The biggest amber in the world weighs 20 kilograms, and this one is 1,000 kilograms. There is a difference of 980 kilograms,” Fidan said in a media interview. 

Prayer beads are used by members of various religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam to mark the repetitions of prayers.
